Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare (OBH) is the prescriptive use of outdoor and nature-based experiences by licensed mental health professionals to meet the therapeutic needs of clients. The OBH industry has evolved and continues to build close ties to other healthcare and wellness driven organizations aligned with the vision of creating greater access to nature and the outdoors for the betterment of individuals and families. OBH has tracked industry data and trend analyses for decades that can be helpful in informing others of the current state of the OBH industry, as well as improving collaboration between OBH and other organizations. This effort should enable both OBH and others to better understand the wellness and mental health benefits of nature, maintain continuity of care between healthcare providers and the community at large, and understand what the OBH industry has to offer. Recently, OBH published a groundbreaking comparison group study that changes the way we think about OBH effectiveness. This presentation will focus on current trends in the OBH industry and the benefits of nature in healthcare. Current research and industry data will be shared with participants. Participants will engage in discussion regarding the future goals of OBH and collaboration with other organizations.
